How does the process work?
Start by contacting us! Let us know as much as you can about your special event: date, location, number of guests, etc. We’ll be in touch to set up a time for you to pick up a tasting and schedule your online consultation. During your consultation we’ll settle on flavors and all the design details. We charge $20/tasting; a credit is applied to your order upon booking.
When should I book?
The sooner the better. Our rain-free, gloriously sunny weekends are limited here in the Pacific Northwest, and they book up fast. For larger events, we prefer three months notice. Regardless, reach out anytime and we’ll let you know if we can accommodate!
What is your pricing and how does payment work?
Our custom cakes can range from $10-20/serving depending on the complexity of your design. We do offer additional sheet cakes with custom orders for $4/serving. In order to secure the date, you will need to pay a 50% deposit. The final payment and any further changes to your order are due within two weeks of your event. We accept cash, check, and credit.
I want to know more about your sugar flowers! What are they made of and how are they made?
Thanks for asking! We LOVE making sugar flowers. Learn more about them here.
Do you offer vegan and/or gluten-free cakes?
Yes, we do! Currently we offer both chocolate and carrot cake. Please note that we are NOT a wheat, egg, peanut, nor nut-free zone!
Do you offer delivery?
Yes! Delivery in close-in Portland is $30. For anything outside a 10 mile radius, there is an additional cost. We also do offer the option of picking up your cake at our NW studio (we’ll box is up safely and securely), but once it is in your possession it is your responsibility!
Do you provide cake stands and/or cake toppers?
Unfortunately, we are no longer able to provide cake stand or cake topper rentals. If you have a specific cake stand or topper in mind, please bring it to our studio prior to your event so that we can incorporate it. For stands, if none is provided, all of our cakes are delivered on a decorative disposable cake board.
I understand you make sugar flowers, but can I put fresh flowers on my cake?
Of course! Your florist will need to provide the flowers on the day of your event.
What kind of frosting do you use? Are you cakes covered in fondant?
Depending on the cake flavor, Bake Lab cakes are frosted in either silky Swiss buttercream or cream cheese frosting. We do prefer to cover cakes in fondant as well, but that’s up to you! To learn more about why we prefer fondant, check out our fondant facts.
